Designed for precision surface finishing, this honing brush efficiently removes burrs, smooths rough edges, and polishes metal surfaces. Ideal for improving bore quality, ensuring consistent crosshatch patterns, and extending tool life. Suitable for use on steel, aluminum, and other metals in automotive, industrial, and machining applications.

Description
Application Description for Flexible Honing Brushes
The flexible honing brushes are clamped into a hand drill with adjustable speed, and the overlap of the manual back-and-forth motion and the rotary motion of the machine creates the typical honing pattern. A honing angle of approximately 65 degrees is ideal. The use of special honing oil prevents excessive wear on the honing brush, removes the (minimal) abrasion, and ensures the correct machining quality.
Flexible honing does not increase the cylinder diameter. It simply restructures the surface—and this is the important point. The honing marks ensure the necessary oil adhesion!
Areas of Application
Cylinder Cross Grinding
Surface Cleaning
Pipe Deburring
There are no limits to the variety of applications and the user’s innovative ideas!
All well-known piston ring manufacturers recommend flexible honing of the cylinder bores before installing new piston rings. This is the only way to re-enter the worn cylinder bores with the honing marks necessary for running-in. This is the only way to run-in new piston rings!
This technique is generally used for cylinders that are still dimensionally accurate, i.e., within the manufacturer’s tolerances, but new piston rings are being installed to ensure proper sealing. During an engine overhaul, this cylinder reconditioning is a cost-effective alternative to reboring the cylinders in conjunction with the use of new oversized pistons/piston rings.
However, if the cylinder wall shows scuffing, severe scoring, severe corrosion, or edges caused by excessive wear at the inflection point of the upper piston ring, it is better to rebore a cylinder to the next size!
The Flex Hone brush is a precisely sized tool for a specific cylinder diameter range. Each brush covers approximately 10% of the nominal diameter.
Using a flexible honing brush is clearly preferable to using conventional three-arm honing machines, as these require significant material removal to restore the cross-hatch finish at the reversal point of the upper piston ring.
Experts agree: A flexible honing brush is the ideal method for creating a cross-hatch finish.
